I’m thrilled and grateful to have been featured on the latest episode of Counter Charge, the premier podcast for Kings of War enthusiasts. In episode 735, “Data and Dice,” I had the opportunity to discuss my data-driven approach to Kings of War and share insights about the Wisconsin gaming scene.
If you haven’t listened yet, I encourage you to check it out here. It’s a fun conversation that dives into how I use data analytics to think about the game and the overall meta.
One of the interesting topics that came up during our chat was the age-old debate: Elite or Vicious? Which is better? On the podcast, I said it was trivial to run a simulation to show they’re the same, so I went ahead and did that. Using a simple combat simulator, I ran 10,000 simulations for various combinations of Melee values and Crushing Strength vs a defense 4 unit. The results? Elite and Vicious are statistically equivalent in terms of damage output:
Melee | Crushing | Wounds with Elite | Wounds with Vicious |
---|---|---|---|
2+ | 0 | 5.85 | 5.81 |
2+ | 1 | 8.71 | 8.74 |
2+ | 2 | 11.66 | 11.71 |
3+ | 0 | 4.67 | 4.67 |
3+ | 1 | 6.96 | 7.02 |
3+ | 2 | 9.29 | 9.30 |
4+ | 0 | 3.50 | 3.50 |
4+ | 1 | 5.26 | 5.23 |
4+ | 2 | 7.05 | 7.01 |
5+ | 0 | 2.32 | 2.32 |
5+ | 1 | 3.50 | 3.45 |
5+ | 2 | 4.69 | 4.67 |
I’m passionate about using data to shed light on these kinds of questions, and I’m so appreciative of Counter Charge for giving me a platform to share my work with the wider Kings of War community.
Stay tuned for more data-driven insights, and happy gaming!
