Kings of War Armies: A Statistical Outlier Analysis

I used a Python script to calculate average unit statistics for every faction from the Clash of Kings 2023 lists. The results highlight a few roster differences: Dwarfs average the highest Defense, Elves and Sylvan Kin are the fastest, and Empire of Dust has the most unique keywords. These are roster averages, so they describe what is available on paper rather than how a particular list performs in a game.

Dwarfs have the highest average Defense (De 4.9), and 14 units with Piercing. Their average Speed is 4.6, so the roster trades movement for the ability to hold ground.

Elves have the highest average Speed (Avg Sp 6.9). They have fewer units with Crushing Strength (CS) or Piercing, so their profile leans more on mobility and positioning than on brute force.

Empire of Dust has the largest Unique Keywords count (35). That gives players more rules to learn and may also provide more tactical options.

Ogres have the highest average points cost per unit (Avg Pts 164.3). That suggests the roster is built around higher-cost units, though points cost alone does not show their impact in a game.

Riftforged Orcs average 156.4 points per unit and have an average Defense of 4.6, both high in this dataset. That fits an elite-roster profile, though these averages do not show how the faction performs overall.

Sylvan Kin have the highest average Speed (Avg Sp 7) in this dataset. That can help them reach objectives and reposition, though the roster average does not show how often that speed converts into scoring.

These averages show different roster profiles: the Dwarfs have the highest Defense, the Elves and Sylvan Kin are fastest, and Empire of Dust has the most unique keywords. Ogres and Riftforged Orcs are among the higher-cost rosters. These numbers can guide list-building questions, but they do not show how a specific list scores, handles matchups, or performs at a tournament.
